Halloween Safety Tips for Kids!

Here's a list of age-old safety tips for the kids!

  • Walk, don't run.

  • Stay on Sidewalks.

  • Obey traffic signals.

  • Stay in familiar neighborhoods.

  • Don't cut across yards or driveways.

  • Wear a watch you can read in the dark.

  • Make sure costumes don't drag on the ground.

  • Shoes should fit (even if they don't go with your costume).

  • Avoid wearing masks while walking from house to house.

  • Carry only flexible knives, swords or other props.

  • If no sidewalk walk on the left side of the road facing traffic

  • Wear clothing with reflective markings or tape.
Approach only houses that are lit.

Halloween Safety
Tips for Parents!

  • Make your child eat dinner before setting out. Children should carry quarters so they can call home.

  • Ideally, young children of any age should be accompanied by an adult.

  • If your children go on their own, be sure they wear a watch, preferably one that can be read in the dark.

  • If you buy a costume, look for one made of flame-retardant material.

  • Older children should know where to reach you and when to be home.

  • You should know where they're going.

  • Although tampering is rare, tell children to bring the candy home to be inspected before consuming anything.

  • Look at the wrapping carefully and toss out anything that looks suspect.

Halloween Flyer Sponsor Needed

Superintendent Michael Delahanty has approved the distribution of our Halloween Safety Tips flyer to all elementary school students. (Thank you!)  To be distributed the week prior to Halloween, we are providing a Back to Basics list of common sense safety tips.  The flyers will go home will all students.  The flyers will be printed on bright orange paper to better catch the eye of parents.   A heartfelt thanks to the School District for approving this flyer.  You can download a copy of the flyer here!

Since its inception, we have remained a non-funded group.  The decision was made early on to seek funding ONLY for specific projects as-needed.  We are now in need of a sponsor for the Flyer.  Kinkos has quoted $180.00 for the 2,000 flyers needed.  If you are interested in sponsoring the flyer, please Contact Us!

You Are Responsible.

You've joined the Salem Safe Kids Network.  As a member of the network, you are responsible.

You are responsible to report ANY suspicious activity to our local police.

You are responsible for making child safety YOUR business.  We no longer live in an age where "someone else can do it."

You are responsible to maintain an elevated level of awareness in OUR community. Take a few extra minutes every day to be aware of what is going on in your immediate area.

Please take the time to forward
this flyer to other local parents.
We thank you.
