Founded by parents of
children in the Salem area, we are a true grassroots organization as we
are un-funded with all group work done on a volunteer only basis.
We maintain an ongoing working relationship with both the Salem Police
and local school administrators.
Our network of families
participating in the Safe Kids program now exceeds 200 families. Since
it's inception, we have remained a non-funded group. The decision
was made early on to seek funding ONLY for specific projects as-needed.
This policy allows us to best focus on our primary cause- keeping an
ever watchful eye on the children of Salem.
Salem Safe Kids has a twofold objective to
help protect the children of our community.
Family Awareness
Bringing to the attention
of other parents in a peer to peer fashion that there are steps you
can take to help keep the children of our community safe from those
who would choose to victimize children is a responsibility all parents
share.
By creating an open
environment where parents can speak to each other at regularly
scheduled meetings and heighten watchfulness over the children in our
community is a vital first step. By creating a forum of open
dialogue, questions about how to best share with our children prudent
safety habits can be answered with honesty and candor without creating
panic.
Our monthly email newsletter
offer members of the Network both helpful safety tips and information,
as well as keeping the issue of ongoing child safety in the
forefront.
Educational Awareness
Easy access to both
on-line and real-time resources is the key to education not only
parents but also the children of our community. Dedicated Salem Safe
Kids Educational liaisons can work directly with members of our
schools support staff to see that vital information is presented in a
spirit of education and helpfulness.
